As the designated charging locations, airports will need to facilitate the demand for charging services but cannot dictate demand. Airlines pursue a network strategy, and for airports – being one node in such networks – it does not make sense to make decisions about charging infrastructure in isolation. Uncertainty and lack of visibility regarding if and when charging services are needed is a barrier to plan much needed charging infrastructure. On other hand, airlines have started to order electric aircraft but have little to no certainty to at which airports they can use their aircraft. In the same way airports are dependent on the airlines’ needs, airlines are dependent on airports with regard to implementing the for them proper charging infrastructure.
