
The practice of charging electric aircraft will be more complicated than that of electric vehicles. For starters, the only charging locations for electric aircraft will by definition be airports. Second, to enable commercial operations charging of electric aircraft need to be ultra-reliable fast charging at high capacities (due to safety reasons, slow charging and overnight charging is no option). Finally, charging capacity-wise airports will need to be able to deal with (changing) peak patterns resulting from flight schedules. Balancing the elements of the charging eco-system (grid power, battery storage and if relevant self-produced electricity from solar park) in an optimal way is a complicated exercise.
